The Hon. Michael Garcia is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. He was appointed on December 27, 2011, by former governor Jerry Brown, to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Marlene A. Kristovich.
He is a registered Democrat.
Judge Garcia received his B.A. from Occidental College, Los Angeles in 1979. He went on to earn his J.D. from Loyola School of Law in 1985.
Garcia joined the Law Offices of Capiro & Freixes as an attorney in 1989. In that same year, he also served as a supervising trial deputy for the Central District of California Office of the Federal Public Defender. After 18 years with the Federal Public Defenders Office, Garcia became a court commissioner in 2007 for the Los Angeles Superior Court where he remained until his appointment to the bench in 2011.
