Biography

The Hon. Melvin D. Sandvig is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench in 1998 by former governor Pete Wilson.

He graduated with his J.D. from the University of La Verne College of Law.

Prior to being appointed to the Superior Court, Sandvig had served as a Los Angeles Police Officer for twenty years. During his tenure with the LAPD, he also served as a civil litigator in private practice. After he retired from the police department in 1987, Sandvig served as counsel for police officers who appeared before the LAPD Board of Appeals.

In 2008 Judge Sandvig proposed to his then-girlfriend, Terri Johnson, at a Los Angeles Dodgers baseball game while they were being broadcast on the stadiums' big screen. She said yes.
