Biography

The Hon. Mark H. Epstein is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench in 2016 by former governor Jerry Brown.

He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Thomas I. McKnew.

Epstein is a registered Democrat.

Judge Epstein received his B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles. He went on to earn his J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law in 1985.

After graduating from law school, Epstein clerked for the Hon. Stanley A. Weigel with the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California from 1985 to 1986. He also clerked for the Hon. Edward A. Panelli with the California Supreme Court from 1986 to 1987, and the Hon. William J. Brennon, Jr, with the U.S. Supreme Court from 1987 to 1988.

Epstein joined the law firm of Munger, Tolles, and Olson as an associate in 1988, where he practiced complex business litigation. He was made a partner for the firm in 1993 and continued to practice in that capacity until his appointment to the Superior Court in 2016.
