Biography

The Hon. Mario Barrera is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench in 2018 by former governor Jerry Brown. He filled the vacancy created by the death of the Hon. Sandra A. Thompson (deceased).

He is a registered Democrat.

Judge Barrera received his B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles. He went on to earn his J.D. from Southwestern Law School.

Barrera began his legal career as a deputy public defender for the Los Angeles County Public Defender's Office in 1992. After fifteen years there, Barrera joined the Los Angeles County Alternate Public Defender's Office in 2007 as a deputy alternate public defender. He held that position until his appointment to the Superior Court in 2018.
