She filled the vacancy created by the retirement of Madeleine I. Flier. Judge Stratton was originally appointed to the Los Angeles County Superior Court in 2006 by then-governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

She is a registered Democrat.

Stratton received her B.A. from the University of Southern California in 1975 and went on to earn her J.D. from the University of California Boalt Hall School of Law in 1979.

After graduating from law school, Stratton clerked for the late Harry Pregerson with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, starting in 1979. She remained there until her appointment to the Superior Court in 2006.

During her time on the Superior Court, Judge Stratton served as a presiding judge for the Probate Court and an assistant supervising judge for the Van Nuys Criminal Branch.
