The Hon. Lorna H. Brumfield is a judge for the Superior Court of Kern County in California. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in March 2009, filling a vacancy created by the conversion of a court commissioner position.
Brumfield earned a B.S. from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. She initially intended to work as a preschool teacher. Her plans changed, and she completed a J.D. from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law.
She began her legal career as an associate at Bills & Price in 1983. Two years later, she left the firm and moved to Wagy, Bunker, Hislop & Lewis, where she practiced for the next four years. Then, in 1990, she joined the Law Offices of Jack B. Hislop.
Just prior to her appointment to the bench, Brumfield worked for LeBeau-Thelen. She joined the firm in 1998 as an associate, eventually rising to partner.
While not presiding over cases, Brumfield enjoys hiking, backpacking, skiing, snowshoeing, and biking. She is also a skilled cook.
Brumfield was born and raised in Kern County, where her family has lived for four generations.
She is registered as a Democrat.
