Biography

The Hon. Linda Colfax is a judge for the Superior Court of San Francisco County in California. She was elected on June 8, 2010, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Wallace P. Douglass.

Colfax earned a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University. She then received a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School. During her tenure at the University of Michigan, Colfax co-founded the Michigan Journal of Race and Law.

Colfax began her legal career as an immigration law attorney. Then, in 1997, she joined the Office of the Public Defender of San Francisco County, where she worked as an attorney until 2010.

She has served on the Board of the ACLU of Northern California, the Women Defenders, BALIF, the Municipal Attorneys Association, and the Golden Gate Women’s Soccer League.

She was a recipient of the Outstanding Volunteer Award from the Bar Association of San Francisco in 2008.

Colfax was born in St. Louis, Missouri. She has lived in the Bernal Heights neighborhood of San Francisco with her wife and children.

She is registered as a Democrat.
