Biography

The Hon. Le Jacqueline Duong is a judge for the Superior Court of Santa Clara County in California. She was appointed to the bench by former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2007, filling a vacancy created by the passing of the Hon. Robert Ambrose (deceased).

Duong earned a bachelor’s degree from San Jose State University in 1991. She then completed a J.D. from the University of California, Davis School of Law in 1994.

She began her legal career in 1996. She first worked as an attorney with the Law Offices of J. Thomas Sherrod. Later that year, she joined the Office of the Public Defender of Santa Clara County as a deputy public defender. Then, in 1999, she moved to the Office of County Counsel of Santa Clara, where she served as deputy county counsel until her appointment to the bench. During her tenure there, she specialized in labor and employment law, represented the board of supervisors, and handled probate matters.

She is a recipient of the National Conference of Vietnamese American Attorneys Trailblazer Award, the Vietnamese American Bar Association of Northern California Trailblazer Award, the Asian Law Alliance Legal Impact Award, as well as the Santa Clara County Bar Association MAC Unsung Heroes Award.

Duong was the first Vietnamese-American woman to be appointed to the bench in Northern California. She immigrated to the United States from Vietnam with her family in 1975. They first lived in Pennsylvania before eventually relocating to San Jose, California.

She is registered as a Democrat.
