Biography

The Hon. Laura W. Halgren is a judge for the Superior Court of San Diego County in California. She was appointed to the bench by former governor Gray Davis on August 29, 2001.

Halgren earned a bachelor’s degree from Loma Linda University in 1979. She then received a J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1984.

She began her legal career as an associate with the firm Gray, Cary, Ames, and Frye in 1984.

Then, five years later, she joined the Office of the Attorney General of California as a deputy attorney general. During her tenure there, she served as counsel to the Commission on Judicial Performance. She also represented the state in defense of the death penalty imposed on Jaturun Siripongs, a Buddhist monk who was executed in 1999.
