Biography

The Hon. Laura J. Birkmeyer is a judge for the Superior Court of San Diego County in California. She was appointed to the bench by former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on December 13, 2005, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Thomas O. LaVoy.

Birkmeyer earned a B.A. from Rutgers University. She then received a J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles.

She began her legal career as a deputy district attorney for the Office of the District Attorney of San Diego County in 1986. Later that year, she left the Office of the District Attorney in order to join the Office of the United States Attorney, where she worked in the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force. She was serving as an executive assistant U.S. Attorney at the time of her appointment to the bench.

Birkmeyer is registered as a Democrat.
