Biography

The Hon. Katrina West is a judge for the Superior Court of San Bernardino County in California. She was appointed to the bench by former governor Gray Davis in 2001, filling a newly created position.

West earned a B.A. in psychology and sociology from Bryn Mawr College. She then completed a J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles Law School in 1990.

West began her legal career as an associate at Covington & Crowe in 1990. During her eleven-year tenure with the firm, she specialized in family law cases, eventually rising to partner in 1998.

She has served as vice-president of the San Bernardino County Barrister’s Association. Her other memberships have included the Family Law Executive Committee of the State Bar, the Lawyer Referral Service of the Western San Bernardino County Bar Association, the Family Law Section of the American Bar Association, the San Bernardino County Inns of Court, and the African-American Attorneys of the Inland Empire Association.

West was the first African American judge to serve on the Superior Court of San Bernardino County.
