The Hon. Julie Fox Blackshaw is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench in 2013 by former governor Jerry Brown. She filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Joan Comparet-Cassani (Ret.).
Blackshaw is a registered Democrat.
She received her B.A. from Stanford University. She went on to earn her J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.
Blackshaw began her legal career practicing as an associate for the law firms of Sellers, Connor, and Cuneo from 1979 to 1982, Overland, Berke, Wesley, Gits, Randolph, and Levanas from 1983 to 1984, and Tuttle and Taylor from 1984 to 1987.
She also served a brief stint as a legislative assistant for the former U.S. Representative from California, Congressman Leon Edward Panetta, from 1982 to 1983.
Blackshaw joined the U.S. Attorney's Office to serve as an assistant U.S. attorney in their Criminal Division from 1987 to 1994.
In 2000, Blackshaw became deputy general counsel for the Los Angeles Police Commission's Rampart Independent Review Panel. She also served as a special master in the federal court system from 2002 to 2010.
She would then become deputy counsel for then-mayor Antonio Villaraigosa for the City of Los Angeles. She remained in that position for the next three years, until her appointment to the Superior Court in 2013.
