The Hon. Julian W. Bailey is a judge for the Superior Court of Orange County in California. He was appointed by former governor Jerry Brown in May 2012, filling a vacancy created after a court commissioner position was converted to a judgeship.
Bailey attended the University of California, Los Angeles, where he earned a B.A. in economics in 1971. He continued his studies at the University of California, Los Angeles, receiving a J.D. in 1974.
Bailey began his legal career as a Deputy District Attorney with the Office of the District Attorney of Orange County in 1975. Then, in 1978, he joined Giles, Callaham, and McCune as an associate. The following year he accepted a position as a partner at Dolan, Bailey, and Reopelle, where he worked until 1982. Between 1982 to 2007, he joined Bailey and Brott as a partner, specializing in criminal law. He became a Juvenile Court Referee in 2007 with the Juvenile Court of Orange County, eventually becoming a Superior Court Referee with the Superior Court of Orange County in 2011.
Bailey was born in Los Angeles, California. His mother was a homemaker and his father was a pilot in the U.S. Navy. He attended public schools in Glendale, California, moving to Orange County in 1974. He has lived in San Clemente, California with his wife and three children.
Bailey has been endorsed by the Orange County Coalition of Police and Sheriffs as well as the Latino Peace Officers Association.
