Biography

The Hon. Jon R. Rolefson is a judge for the Alameda County Superior Court in California. He was originally appointed to the Alameda Municipal Court in 1996 by former governor Pete Wilson. He was subsequently elevated to the Superior Court as a result of the court's unification.

Judge Rolefson received his bachelor's degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 1970. He went on to earn his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1973.

Rolefson began his legal career in the public arena, joining the Alameda County District Attorney's Office in 1973 as a deputy district attorney.

After seven years at the D.A.'s office, Rolefson became a criminal defense attorney in private practice. He remained in that capacity until his appointment to the Municipal Court in 1996.

In his courtroom, Judge Rolefson encourages attorneys to speak up but to also be concise. While on the bench, Judge Rolefson has served as a supervising judge for the East County Hall of Justice's Criminal Department, where he has presided over a master criminal calendar.
