The Hon. Joginder S. Dhillon is a judge for the Sacramento County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench in 2018 by former governor Jerry Brown. He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Raymond M. Cadei (Ret.).
He is registered without party preference.
Judge Dhillon received his B.S. from the United States Air Force Academy in 1982. He also graduated with his LL.M. in intellectual property from the University of Houston Law Center and his J.D. from Harvard Law School.
Dhillon served in active duty with the U.S. Air Force starting in 1982. During his twenty-year tenure in the Air Force, his assignments included serving in Panama, Saudi Arabia, and Germany. At the time of his retirement from active duty, Dhillon was serving as a legal advisor to the United States Space Command/North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD).
His civilian positions have included working as an associate and shareholder with the law firm Schuering, Zimmerman, and Doyle LLP from 2002 to 2004, and an associate with Booz Allen Hamilton for one year. While at Booz Allen Hamilton, Dhillon specialized in national security policy.
Then, after working for two years as the director of academic support for the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, Dhillon would hold several state positions beginning in 2007.
He served as general counsel for the California Emergency Management Agency for two years, before becoming chief counsel for the California Gambling Control Commission in 2009. Then, in 2013, then-governor Brown appointed Dhillon to serve as his senior advisor. He would remain in that position until Brown's term as governor ended in 2019.
While on the bench, Judge Dhillon has served as a rotation judge for the civil harassment restraining order calendar as well as trial and misdemeanor warrants assignments.
Judge Dhillon, whose parents immigrated to the United States from Punjab, India in the 1950s, held the distinction of being the first Sikh to be appointed to the Sacramento County Superior Court.
