The Hon. Joel M. Pressman (Ret.) served as a judge for the Superior Court of San Diego County in California. He was appointed to the bench by former governor Gray Davis on December 20, 2001, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. David Moon. Pressman retired from the court on August 1, 2017.
Pressman earned a B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley in 1969. He then received a J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1972.
He began his legal career in 1972. He started as a partner at Hadfield, Van Berolding, Graubart & Pressman. Then, in 1982, he moved to Kolodny & Pressman, where he served as a partner until his appointment to the bench. During his tenure in these positions, Pressman represented plaintiffs and defendants in civil litigation matters, specializing in business, commercial, personal injury, real estate, and class action cases.
He has served on the Board of Directors of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers. He has also been a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates as well as the Lopardo American Inn of Court.
He is a recipient of the Bernard Witkin Award from the San Diego Law Library Foundation (2015), and he was named Outstanding Trial Lawyers by the San Diego Trial Lawyers (1992).
Pressman spends his free time traveling to exotic places, listening to music, exploring natural parks and beaches, and attending the opera and the theatre.
