Biography

The Hon. Jerilyn L. Borack is a judge for the Sacramento County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench in 2002 by former governor Gray Davis. She filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. James Ford (Ret.).

Judge Borack received her B.S. from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1967. After graduating from college, Borack became a junior high school teacher for the Los Angeles Unified School District, where she taught French, History, and Social Studies. After seven years in that career, Borack made the decision to pursue her law degree. She attended the University of California, Davis School of Law, where she graduated with her J.D. in 1982.

She began her legal career in private practice, opening her own firm in 1983. Her areas of practice included all matters of family law, such as dissolution, child and spousal support, property division, custody, paternity, and adoption cases. She was certified as a Family Law Specialist by the California State Bar in 1992. She remained in solo practice until her appointment to the bench in 2002.

She also served as a judge pro tem for the Yolo and El Dorado County Superior Courts and as a court referee for the Placer and Sacramento County Superior Courts.

While on the bench, Judge Borack has served as a Juvenile Court Presiding Judge.

Her memberships have included the Sacramento County Bar Association, the Sacramento Youth Symphony and Academy of Music, and the Sierra Adoption Agency.

She has also served on the Sacramento Superior Court's Peer Review Grievance Committee.

Judge Borack's sister is Sheila Kuehl, the former California State Senator. Both Borack and her sister were child actors. Judge Borack landed a role on a popular 1950s television show when she was only 5-years old. Her television career lasted until she was twelve.
