The Hon. Jeffrey Ferguson is a judge of the Superior Court of Orange County in California. He was elected on June 3, 2014.
Ferguson earned a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences and social ecology from the University of California, Irvine in 1973. He then attended Western State University College of Law, where he received a J.D. in 1982.
In 1983 Ferguson began his legal career by working as a deputy district attorney in the Office of the District Attorney of Orange County. In the 1990s he was promoted to senior deputy district attorney. He was posted to the Major Narcotics Enforcement Team, where he led the Probation Offender Search and Seizure Enforcement Task Force. He also served as a liaison to the California Anti-Terrorism Information Center, a member of the Felony Strike Team, as well as a member of the Parole Violator Working Group.
Ferguson was born in Oakland, California. Because his father was a career U.S. Naval Officer, Ferguson spent most of his childhood on military bases in Japan and the Philippines. In 1962 his family moved to Orange County, California, where Ferguson attended the Southern California Military Academy and Western High School.
As an undergraduate student at the University of California, Irvine, Ferguson started his own graphic design business. After completing his bachelor’s degree, he worked as a Creative Director at Imagery, an advertising and communications firm, where he did design work for companies as diverse as Exacta Financial, New World Productions, World Press Association, and Tomorrow Communications.
Ferguson is married with two sons. His wife has worked for the Probation Department of Santa Barbara County and Orange County and the American Funds Service Company.
Ferguson has been named Prosecutor of the Year four times by the Orange County Narcotic Officers Association.
