Biography

The Hon. Helena R. Gweon is a judge for the Sacramento County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench in 2006 by former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

She is registered without party preference.

Judge Gweon graduated with her B.A. in English literature from the University of California, Berkeley. She went on to earn her J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1992.

After graduating from law school, Gweon worked briefly as a consultant for Conflict Management, Inc. and then for Business Design Associates, before joining the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office in 1995. During her eleven-year tenure as a deputy district attorney, Gweon helped prosecute sexual assault, child abuse, and domestic violence cases.

She has served as the past-president of the California Asian-Pacific American Judges Association.

While on the bench, Judge Gweon's assignments have included the Criminal Writs Department as well as serving on the Appellate Panel.
