Biography

The Hon. Harold E. Kahn is a judge for the Superior Court of San Francisco County in California. He was appointed by former governor Gray Davis on April 23, 2001, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. George T. Chopplelas.

Kahn earned a B.A. from Amherst College in 1978. He then received a J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School in 1982.

Kahn began his legal career as a law clerk for the Hon. Joseph Young of the United States District Court for the District of Maryland. Then, in 1983, he joined Heller, Ehrman, White, and McAuliffe as an associate. Four years later, he left the firm and started his own private practice, where he specialized in competition and business litigation cases.

Kahn has served as the chair of the Collaborative Justice Courts Advisory Committee of the California Judicial Council. He has also served on the Board of Advisors of The Green Bag, a legal journal published by George Mason University Law School.

Kahn received the Lawyer of the Year Award from the AIDS Legal Referral Panel of the Bay Area in 2000. He is also a recipient of the Outstanding Volunteer in Public Service Award from the San Francisco Bar Association in 1999.

Kahn was born in Los Angeles, California.

He is registered as a Democrat.
