The Hon. Gregory Wilson Alarcon is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. He was originally appointed to the Los Angeles Municipal Court in 1993 by former governor Pete Wilson, and then subsequently elevated to the Superior Court in 1996 by then-governor Wilson.
He is a registered Republican.
Judge Alarcon received his B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1977. He went on to earn his J.D. from Loyola Law School in 1981.
Alarcon's legal resume includes working as an assistant U.S. Attorney for the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Central District of California, as well as a deputy district attorney for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. Just prior to his appointment to the L.A. Municipal Court, Alcaron was serving as a deputy attorney general for the California Attorney General's Office.
During his time on the bench, Judge Alarcon was under consideration for an appointment to the Court of Appeal in 2001.
Alarcon has taught trial practice as an adjunct professor at Pepperdine University School of Law. He has also served as a trainer and educator to new judges, as well as spoken on the subject of ethics to judges across California.
He is an avid lecturer and writer. Alarcon has submitted several articles to the Advocate Magazine in which he suggests historical figures as potential mentors. He has also been a contributor to the Continuing Education of the Bar of California (C.E.B.) Action Guide.
In 2013, Judge Alarcon received the Judge of the Year Award from the Constitutional Rights Foundation. He also received the David McKibben Excellence in Teaching Award in 2017 from Pepperdine University School of Law.
Judge Alarcon is the son of the Hon. Arthur L. Alarcon (deceased), former U.S. Circuit Judge with the U.S. Court of Appeal for the Ninth Circuit.
