Biography

The Hon. Gregory A. Syren is a judge for the Alameda County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench in 2012 by former governor Jerry Brown. He filled the vacancy created by the elevation of the Hon. Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.

He is a registered Democrat.

Judge Syren received his B.S. from the University of California, Berkeley. He went on to earn his J.D. from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law.

After a brief stint in private practice, Syren joined the Napa County Public Defender's Office, where he worked for one year as a deputy public defender beginning in 1986. He then joined the Solano County Public Defender's Office briefly in 1987, before joining the Alameda County P.D.'s office, where he served as an assistant public defender until his appointment to the Superior Court in 2012.
