The Hon. Garry G. Haehnle is a judge for the Superior Court of San Diego County in California. He was elected to the bench in 2008.
Haehnle attended Clemson University, where he earned a B.S. in 1979. He continued his studies there, eventually completing an M.S. in forestry in 1981. Then, in 1989, he received a J.D. from the Thomas Jefferson School of Law.
He began his legal career as a deputy district attorney with the Office of the District Attorney of San Diego County in 1990. During his sixteen-year tenure there, he prosecuted homicides, child abduction, child abuse, and domestic violence cases. He was eventually promoted to Supervising District Attorney in the Child Abduction Unit. Then, in 2006, he was appointed court commissioner for the Superior Court of San Diego County, where he presided over traffic, small claims, and eviction cases.
He designed, implemented, and taught courses on child abduction for the San Diego Law Enforcement Academy. He has also served as an advisor to the Southern California CARES program, a YMCA Youth and Services project dedicated to preventing child abductions.
Haehnle has served on the Board of Directors for San Diego Youth and Community Services.
He was named Prosecutor of the Year by the Southern California Juvenile Officers Association. He is a recipient of the Special Recognition Award from the San Diego Crime Commission as well as the Director’s Award from the California Family Support Council.
Haehnle is a dog lover. He breeds, trains, and shows German Shepherds. He is a co-founder of Deutscher Schaferhunde Club San Diego, a local German Shepherd dog club.
