The Hon. Garrett L. Wong is a judge for the Superior Court of San Francisco County in California. He was appointed by former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on September 9, 2005, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Alex Saldamando.
Wong earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of California, Berkeley. He then received a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and an LL.M. from the Georgetown University Law Center.
Wong began his legal career as a supervising attorney at the Juvenile Justice Clinic at Georgetown University in 1980. He then relocated to San Francisco, where he joined the Office of the Public Defender in San Francisco County as a deputy public defender for three years.
Wong left the public sector in 1987. He spent the next fourteen years working as an attorney in private practice, representing individuals, small businesses, and institutions in commercial, criminal, and regulatory matters. Then, in 2001, he joined SBC Communications as senior counsel, a position he held until his appointment to the bench.
Wong is a fourth-generation San Francisco native.
