Biography

The Hon. Frederick S. Chung is a judge for the Superior Court of Santa Clara County in California. He was appointed to the bench by former governor Jerry Brown on October 11, 2018, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Margaret Johnson.

Chung earned a B.A. from Harvard College in 1991. He then completed a J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1995.

He began his legal career as a law clerk to the Hon. Karen Moore at the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit in 1995. The following year, he joined Morrison & Foerster LLP as an associate. Then, in 2003, he moved to Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, where he was eventually named partner in 2008.

Chung is registered as a Democrat.
