The Hon. Fernando L. Aenlle-Rocha is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench in May of 2017 by former governor Jerry Brown. He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Jane L. Johnson (Ret.).
He is a registered Republican.
When Aenlle-Rocha was a small child his parents immigrated to the U.S. from Cuba.
Judge Aenlle-Rocha received his B.A. from Princeton University in 1983. He went on to earn his J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law in 1986.
After graduating from law school, Aenlle-Rocha joined the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office in 1987 as a deputy district attorney. During his time as a deputy with the Los Angeles D.A.'s office, Aenlle-Rocha was assigned to the Major Fraud Division as well as the Central Trial Unit.
In 1990 he became an assistant U.S. attorney for the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida in Miami, where he practiced until 1994 when he joined the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Central District of California.
During his time as a federal prosecutor, Aenlle-Rocha helped train prosecutors in Venezuela on behalf of the U.S. Department of Justice.
In 1999 he left the DOJ to join the law firm of Stephan, Oringher, Richman, and Theodora, PC as an associate. After practicing with the firm for one year, Aenlle-Roche joined the Los Angeles law firm of McDermott, Will, and Emery, LLP as a partner where he practiced from 2000 to 2005. He then joined the law firm White and Case, LLP as a partner. He remained with the firm until his appointment to the Superior Court in 2017. As a litigator, Aenlle-Roche's areas of practice included complex civil litigation, white-color crimes, securities, tax, health care providers, and environmental fraud just to name a few.
Besides his partnership role at White and Case, LLP, Aenlle-Roche did pro bono work for the firm. He also provided pro bono legal assistance for the Los Angeles County Citizens' Commission.
His memberships have included the Mexican American Bar Foundation and the Clergy Misconduct Oversight Board for the Los Angeles Catholic Archdiocese.
