The Hon. Efrain Matthew Aceves is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. He was elected to the bench in the November 2016 election.
Judge Aceves graduated with his B.A. in sociology and business administration from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1992. He went on to earn his J.D. from UCLA School of Law in 1997.
After graduating from law school, Aceves joined the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office as a deputy district attorney in 1997. During his 19 years with the D.A.'s office, Aceves prosecuted gang murders, rape cases, child molestation cases, as well as carjacking and kidnapping cases. He was assigned to the Victim Impact Program and the Family Violence Division. He remained with the D.A.'s office until being elected to the Superior Court in 2016.
In 2005 Aceves was elected to serve as the School Board President for the Whittier City School District Board of Education. He stepped down from the position after being elected to the bench.
He was also elected to serve on the nonprofit Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital's (PIH) board of directors in 2007.
Judge Aceves, who was born in Mexico, has been a past-president of the Mexican American Bar Association.
