Biography

The Hon. Edward P. Allard III (Ret.) served as a judge for the Superior Court of San Diego County in California. He was appointed to the bench by former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2006, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Wesley R. Mason. Allard retired from the bench on December 4, 2017.

Allard earned a B.A. from Boston College. He then received a J.D. from Western New England College in 1978.

He began his legal career in private practice, working as an associate in the law firm of Woisard, Back & Woisard from 1978 to 1980. He then joined the Judge Advocate General’s Corps for the United States Navy, where he served as a lieutenant for the next two years.

Then, in 1983, he briefly worked as an associate at Jackson, Harris & Burlingame before becoming an assistant U.S. Attorney in the Office of the United States Attorney in 1984.

Allard then returned to private practice in 1987. He started McClellan & Allard in 1987, leaving the following year to serve as an attorney for the United States Department of Treasury.

He then returned to the Office of the United States Attorney in 1988, where he worked as an assistant U.S. Attorney until his appointment to the bench.

He is registered as a Republican.
