Biography

The Hon. Eddie C. Sturgeon is a judge for the Superior Court of San Diego County in California. He was initially appointed to the El Cajon Municipal Court by former governor George Deukmejian in 1988, filling a vacancy created by the elevation of the Hon. William Howatt, Jr. He was then elevated to the Superior Court of San Diego County after the unification of superior and municipal courts in 1998.

Sturgeon earned a J.D. from the University of Santa Clara School of Law in 1973.

He began his legal career as an associate with Tolman & Lorella, a San Diego-based law firm that handled both civil and criminal cases. He quickly became a partner, practicing with the firm for fourteen years before starting his own private practice in 1988.

Sturgeon served as president of the Foothills Bar Association.

He was named Trial Judge of the Year by the San Diego Trial Lawyers Association in 1990 and 2014.

He was born and raised in San Diego, California.
