Biography

The Hon. Donald F. Gaffney is a judge for the Superior Court of Orange County in California. He was appointed by former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on May 16, 2008, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Hugh Brenner.

Gaffney received a B.A. from California State University, Fullerton. He then earned a J.D. from Harvard Law School.

In 1991 Gaffney began his legal career by working as an attorney at Dewey, Ballantine, Bushby, Palmer & Wood. Then, in 1992, he started work as an attorney for Newmeyer & Dillion LLP before joining Palmieri, Tyler, Wiener, Wilhelm & Waldron as an attorney in 1995. In 1996 he joined the Office of the District Attorney in Orange County, serving as a deputy district attorney for the next seven years. He then transferred to the Office of the United States Attorney where he worked as an Assistant U.S. Attorney until his appointment to the Superior Court of Orange County.
