The Hon. Debra D. Carrillo is a judge for the Superior Court of Orange County in California.
Carrillo received a B.A. from the University of California, Riverside. She then earned a J.D. from the University of San Diego.
Carrillo began her legal career in law enforcement. She served as a records clerk with the Laguna Beach Police Department before working as a reserve police officer, a parking control officer, and a police officer for the City of Laguna Beach. After completing her J.D., Carrillo worked as an attorney with a local civil law firm. Three years later she became a deputy public defender in the Office of the Public Defender of Orange County. She worked in this position until 2005, when she joined the Office of the District Attorney of Orange County. Here, she served as a deputy district attorney in the Economic Crimes Unit of the White Collar Task Force. In this position, she was responsible for prosecuting financial crimes throughout the county, focusing specifically on those involving elder financial abuse, identity theft, real estate fraud, mortgage fraud, employee embezzlements, and securities crimes.
Carrillo has been endorsed by the Orange County Coalition of Police and Sheriffs, Crime Victims United, and District Attorney Tony Rackauckas.
She has swum competitively and has shot on the First String Pistol Team at the California Police Olympics. She has also taught advanced trial advocacy courses at the University of San Diego School of Law.
Carrillo is a mother of two children, graduates of Stanford University and the University of California, Berkeley.
She is registered as a Democrat.
