Biography

The Hon. Debra A. Cole is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench in 2012 by former governor Jerry Brown. She filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Andrew C. Kauffman (Ret.).

She is a registered Democrat.

Judge Cole received her B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles. She went on to earn her J.D. from Loyola Law School.

Cole began her legal career as a deputy public defender for the Los Angeles County Public Defender's Office in 1988. Then, in 1994, she joined the Los Angeles County Alternate Public Defender's Office, where she served as a deputy alternate public defender, a deputy-in-charge, and a head deputy alternate defender. She remained with the A.P.D.'s office until her appointment to the bench in 2012.

She has been a member of the Ball, Hunt, Schooley American Inn of Court.
