The Hon. Deborah L. Christian is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench in October of 2002 by former governor Gray Davis. She filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Leslie W. Light (Ret.).
Christian made an unsuccessful bid for a judicial position in the 2000 election.
Judge Christian received her bachelor's degree from California State University at Dominguez Hills. She obtained her master's degree in public administration from the University of Southern California. She went on to earn her J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law.
Christian began her legal career working as a deputy public defender for the Los Angeles County Public Defender's Office from 1985 to 1993. During her time there, she served as the deputy in charge of 4 offices.
Then, in 1994, Christian was appointed to serve as a court commissioner for the Inglewood Municipal Court. While a municipal court commissioner, Christian presided over the courts civil law and motion and jury trial calendar, as well as the Felony Drug Court. She was ultimately elevated to a Superior Court commissioner position and was serving in that capacity at the time of her appointment to the bench in 2002.
Christian also served as the State Commissioner for the CYA Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Commission.
