The Hon. David B. Gelfound is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench in 2007 by former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger after an unsuccessful bid for a judicial position in 2000. He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Victor Person (Ret.).
He is a registered Republican.
Judge Gelfound received his B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles. He went on to earn his J.D. from Pepperdine University School of Law in 1989.
After graduating from law school, Gelfound would spend the next five years working as an associate for various law firms. They included the Law Offices of Oskar Stark from 1989 to 1991, Leonard and Sanchez from 1991 to 1992, West and Miyamoto from 1992 to 1992, and Mischel, Trock, and Associates from 1993 to 1994. During his time in private practice, he specialized in construction litigation and insurance defense cases.
Gelfound entered the public arena in 1994 after becoming a deputy district attorney for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. During his thirteen years with the D.A.'s office, Gelfound served as a prosecutor in various divisions, which included juvenile delinquency, felony trials, as well as misdemeanor cases, before landing in the Hardcore Gang Division in 2000. While there, Gelfound would help prosecute gang-related murders, assist law enforcement in their efforts to suppress gang-related crimes, as well as help to develop gang prevention programs.
