Biography

The Hon. Dalila C. Lyons is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench in 2005 by former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Judge Lyons, who was born in Durango Mexico, immigrated to the United States in the early 1960s with her family.

She attended the University of Southern California on a scholarship from the USC Latino Alumni Association and graduated from USC in 1981 with her B.S. in public administration. While in college, Lyon interned for the White House's Office of Hispanic Affairs through USC's School of Public Administration's Semester Under Graduate Program in Washington, D.C. After graduating from USC, Lyon would go on to earn her J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law in 1984. During law school, she studied international business law in Mexico City.

After law school, Lyon entered into private practice. She was a business and entertainment litigator for over 20 years. After leaving the private sector, Lyons became a civil litigator for the Los Angeles Office of the County Counsel. At the time of her appointment to the Superior Court, she was serving as a chief legal advisor for the Los Angles County Sheriff's Department.

In 2016 Judge Lyon was named a voting member of the Judicial Council of California. She also served as faculty member for the B.E. Witkin Judicial College of California.

Judge Lyon has supported efforts to increase diversity in the courts. She has also served as a mentor to law students and attorneys.

Her memberships have included the Superior Court Outreach Committee, the Superior Court Diversity Subcommittee, and the California Latino Judges Association.

Some of her many awards include USC's Alumni Merit Award, the Judicial Excellence Award from the Mexican American Bar Association, as well as the National Center For Women and Policing's Breaking the Glass Ceiling Award.
