Biography

The Hon. Cynthia A. Freeland is a judge for the Superior Court of San Diego County in California. She was appointed to the bench by former governor Jerry Brown on December 24, 2016, filling a vacancy created by the conversion of a court commissioner position.

Freeland earned a B.A. from the University of California, San Diego. She then continued her studies, eventually receiving a J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1995.

Freeland began her legal career as a law clerk for the Hon. Andrew Hauk at the United States District Court for the Central District of California. The following year, she joined Baker and McKenzie as an associate, where she rose to partner in 2003. Then, in 2007, she left the firm and joined Schor and Freeland, where she worked as a named partner until her appointment to the bench.

She is registered as a Democrat.
