The Hon. Christine Byrd is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench in 2010 by former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. She filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. John P. Farrell (Ret.).

She is a registered Republican.

Judge Byrd received her B.A. from Stanford University. She went on to earn her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1975.

After graduating from law school, Byrd began a clerkship for the Hon. William P. Gray with the U.S. District Court in 1975. In 1976, she joined the law firm of Jones, Day, Reavis, and Pogue as an associate.

After practicing with the firm for six years, Byrd became an assistant U.S. attorney for the U.S. Attorney's Office in 1982. Byrd served as a federal prosecutor in the Criminal Division of the DOJ until leaving in 1987.

After leaving the public sector, she rejoined Jones, Day, Reavis, and Pogue as a partner, where she practiced until joining the law firm of Irell and Manella LLP as a partner in 1996. During her 14 years with the firm, her areas of practice included handling complex business litigation with a focus on damages in patent litigation. She was serving in that capacity at the time of her appointment to the Superior Court in 2010.

Her memberships have included the Editorial Board of the Quarterly Journal of the American Intellectual Property Law Associaton and the Board of Directors of the Dispute Resolution Services.

She has served as a Fellow in the College of Commercial Arbitrators, as well as in the American College of Trial Lawyers.
