Biography

The Hon. Charles (Carlos) Chung is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench by former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2006.

He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of Paul Flynn.

Chung is registered as a Republican.

Judge Chung received his bachelor's degree from the University of Southern California. He went on to earn his J.D. from Southwestern Law School.

Chung joined the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office in 1996 as a deputy district attorney. During his 10 years as a prosecutor for the D.A.'s office, Chung served on the Major Crimes and Hardcore Gang Divisions. He remained with the D.A.'s office until his appointment to the Superior Court in 2006.

Judge Chung, who prefers to go by Carlos, was born in Argentina and is of Korean descent. He has two brothers who have both served as deputy district attorneys.

Judge Chung has served as an elder and pastor for Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California.

He has also taught criminal concepts and criminal procedure as a lecturer for California State University.
