Biography

The Hon. Carol W. Overton is a judge for the Superior Court of Santa Clara County in California. She was appointed to the bench by former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2005.

Overton earned a B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles. She then completed a J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1984.

She began her legal career as a deputy public defender with the Office of the Public Defender of Santa Clara County in 1984. Three years later, she moved to the Office of the City Attorney of San Jose, where she handled the city’s anti-gang legal strategy. She worked there as a deputy city attorney, eventually rising to senior deputy city attorney in 2000. She held that position until her appointment to the bench in 2005.
