The Hon. Alvin M. Harrell, III is a judge for the Superior Court of Fresno County in California. He was appointed in 2007 by former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Judge Harrell received his undergraduate degree from the University of California Riverside, he then enrolled at University of California Davis School of Law in 1985 eventually receiving his J.D.
Following law school, Harrell began working in the Sacramento office of a San Francisco based labor law firm where he did trust fund defense litigation and discrimination work. In 1991, he moved to Fresno to where he worked on commercial litigation for financial institutions including Bank of America. After that, Harrell joined the District Attorney’s office in Fresno, where he would eventually become supervisor of the hardcore gang unit. He was eventually promoted to Assistant District Attorney.
Judge Alvin is often mixed up with the Hon. Arlan L. Harrell, his brother, who is also a judge for the Fresno County Superior Court. They are fourteen months apart, yet even the people who have worked with them for years still get them mixed-up.
