The Hon. Alice Vilardi (Ret.) was a judge for the Alameda County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench in 2001 by former governor Gray Davis. She retired from the bench in 2018 and her vacancy was filled by the Hon. Richard L. Seabolt.
Vilardi received her B.A. from Brown University. She went on to earn her J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law.
During her legal career, Vilardi worked in both the public and private sectors.
In the public sector, she worked as a deputy public defender for the Santa Clara County Public Defender's Office. She then worked for ten years as a city attorney for the Hayward City Attorney's Office and two years as general counsel for the East Bay Municipal Utility District.
Vilardi practiced governmental law for four years in private practice before reentering the public arena to work as a managing attorney for the Administrative Office of the Courts' Office of the General Counsel. She was serving in that capacity at the time of her appointment to the Superior Court in 2001.
During her time on the bench, Vilardi served as the chief supervising judge of the Family Law Department.
She served as chair of the Workers' Compensation Ethics Advisory Committee and also served on the California Judicial Council's Ethics and Fairness Curriculum Committee.
She served as an instructor for the Center for Judicial Education and Research and also taught ethics with the Judicial Council's new judicial officer training program.
