The Hon. William W. McLees, Jr. (Ret.) served as a judge for the North Dakota North Central Judicial District. McLees was initially elected to the Northwest Judicial District in 1994, transferring to the North Central Judicial District when it was created on January 1, 2014. He retired on June 30, 2014.
The North Central Judicial District includes Burke County, Mountrail County, and Ward County.
McLees earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of North Dakota in 1973. He then completed a J.D. at the University of North Dakota School of Law in 1976.
After graduating from law school, McLees entered into private practice in Watford City. He worked in that capacity until 1983, at which time he became a judge for the McKenzie County Court. Then, in 1990, his judicial duties expanded to include the Billings County Court, the Dunn County Court, and the Golden Valley Court.
Born in Valley City, North Dakota, McLees was raised in Watford City. He and his wife, Kim, have five children.
