Biography

The Hon. William R. Henry is a judge for the 428th District Court in Hays County, Texas. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Rick Perry in 2005.

Henry earned a B.A. from Baylor University in 1984. Then, in 1988, he completed a J.D. at Baylor Law School. He is Board Certified in Family Law and Civil Trial Law.

After graduating from law school, Henry began his legal career as an assistant district attorney in the Hays County District Attorneys Office. Two years later, he entered into private practice, specializing in family law, business law, criminal defense, and personal injury matters. He first worked as an associate at Fitzgerald, Majors & Stevens (1990 to 1995) before becoming a named partner at Jones and Henry (1995 to 2005). Henry eventually returned to the public sector, accepting a position as an assistant attorney general in the Office of the Texas Attorney General. He held this position until his appointment to the bench.

His memberships have included the Travis County Bar Association and the Hays County Bar Association. He has also served as a Board Member of the San Marcos Habitat for Humanity as well as Director of San Marcos Noon Lions Club.

Raised in East Texas, Henry moved to Houston when he was a teenager. His family attends First Baptist Church in San Marcos.
