The Hon. Victor E. Chavez is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. He succeeded the Hon. Carlos E. Velarde in his appointment to the bench by former Governor George Deukmejian in 1990.

Chavez served in the Air Force after graduating high school. After being discharged from the service, he spent time at junior seminary. He left the seminary to attend college on a scholarship.

Judge Chavez received his B.S. from Loyola Marymount University in 1953. He went on to earn his J.D. from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles in 1959.

After law school, he joined the law firm Maslach, Price, and Baukol. He remained with the law firm until he joined forces with a colleague, Leonard Pomerantz, to create the law firm Pomerantz and Chavez where he served as a partner. He remained in private practice for 20 years, until his appointment to the Superior Court in 1990.

He was named Assistant Presiding Judge for the Los Angeles Superior Court in 1996.

Chavez founded the Cowboy Lawyers Association and was named the 1997 Person of the Year by Metropolitan News-Enterprise.

A California native, Judge Chavez enjoys horseback riding and reading.
