The Hon. Trena H. Burger-Plavan is a judge for the Sacramento County Superior Court in California. She was elected to the bench in 2000.
Judge Burger-Plavan graduated summa cum laude with her B.A. in English and economics from Queens College in 1975. She went on to earn her J.D. from the University of California, Davis in 1978. While at UC Davis, Burger-Plavan served as managing editor of the Law Review.
After graduating from law school, Burger-Plavan joined the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office in 1978. During her time there, she helped prosecute repeat sex offenders and child abusers.
In 1981, she entered into private practice. Her areas of practice involved complex business litigation with an emphasis on antitrust and unfair business practices, toxic and environmental law, banking, real property, and employment matters. The industries she represented ranged from farmers to large corporations.
Burger-Plavan has also served as a judge pro tem in local Sacramento courts.
Some of her memberships have included the University of California, Davis Dean's Advisory Council, the Child Abuse Prevention Council of Sacramento, the Women Escaping a Violent Environment and the Sacramentans Against a Violent Environment.
