The Hon. Toby S. Mooney (Ret.) was first justice of the Wareham District Court in Massachusetts. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jane Swift in 2002. She filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Aileen Belford (Ret.). Mooney retired in March 2020.
She also presided as an associate justice of the New Bedford District Court.
Mooney received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado in 1976. She then completed a J.D. at Western New England School of Law in 1982.
Prior to joining the bench, Mooney was an assistant district attorney with the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office. During her tenure there, she served as a District Court supervisor and also held an assignment in the Superior Court Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit.
Mooney is a native of Taunton, Massachusetts.
