The Honorable Toby S. Monaco

The Hon. Toby S. Monaco (Ret.) was a judge for the Eighth Judicial Circuit Court in Alachua County, Florida. He was elected to the Circuit Court in 2000 and retired from the bench in 2018.
Over the course of his judicial career, Monaco served as administrative judge of the Family Division (2002 to 2003) and administrative judge of the Civil Division (2005 to 2010; 2013 to 2016). He was elected to serve as the Chief Judge of the Eighth Judicial Circuit in 2017. He held the position until his retirement from the bench the following year. He also held assignments in the Family Division, Juvenile Division, Civil Division, and Probate and Guardianship Division.
He graduated with his B.A. in psychology from the University of Florida in 1970. He went on to earn a J.D. from the
University of Florida, Fredric G. Levin College of Law in 1973.
Prior to joining the courts, Monaco worked as a civil trial lawyer from 1974 to 2000.
Monaco taught trial practice as an adjunct professor at the University of Florida, Fredric G. Levin College of Law.
He served on the Legislative Coordinating and Judicial Needs Assessment Committees of the Circuit Judges Conference.
He was a founding board member of the James C. Adkins, Jr. American Inn of Court as well as the Gerald T. Bennett Inn of Court and a past president of the Eighth Judicial Circuit Bar Association.
