The Hon. Timothy A. Canning is a judge for the Superior Court of Humboldt County in California. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jerry Brown in 2018, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. John T. Feeney.
Canning earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Dallas. He then completed a J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1990.
He began his legal career as an associate at the Sapiro Law Firm in 1990. Nine years later, he left the firm and started his own private practice as a sole practitioner.
Then, in 2016, he joined the Superior Court of Humboldt County as a research attorney. He held this position briefly, as he was quickly selected to serve as a court commissioner for the Superior Court of Humboldt County in 2017.
Canning is registered as a Democrat.
