Biography

The Hon. Thomas Rubinson is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. He was elected to the bench in 2008.

He is a Democrat.

Judge Rubinson graduated cum laude with his bachelor's degree from Duke University in 1986. After graduating from Duke, Rubinson worked as a staff member for the former U.S. Senator Lawton Chiles in Washington, D.C.

After returning to California, Rubinson went on to earn his J.D. from the University of California Law School in 1990.

Rubinson joined the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office as a deputy district attorney after graduating from law school. During his 17 years with the D.A.'s office, Rubinson spent six and a half years assigned to the Hardcore Gang Unit. His lengthy tenure as a prosecutor also included serving as deputy-in-charge of the D.A.'s Preliminary Hearing Unit.

In 2005 Rubinson received the Prosecutor of the Year Award from the Justice for Homicide Victims organization.

Judge Rubinson has been an active member of his community. He has helped build houses as a part of the Habitat for Humanity organization, served as a Big Brother for the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, and has also served as a member of the Guardians of the Los Angeles Jewish Home for the Aging.
