Biography

The Hon. Thomas P. Aliotta is a Justice of the Richmond County Supreme Court in the Thirteenth Judicial District of New York. While on the Richmond County Supreme Court, Justice Aliotta was elevated in 2011 by the Hon. A. Gail Prudenti, former Chief Administrative Judge of the State of New York, to serve as a Justice of the Supreme Court, Appellate Term in the Second and Eleventh Judicial Districts. In 2002, Justice Aliotta was elected to serve on the Supreme Court in the Second Judicial District and held the post until 2015.

His judicial career began in 1991 when he was elected to serve as a judge for the Civil Court of the City of New York in Richmond County. During his tenure there, Justice Aliotta was appointed by the Hon. Jonathan Lippman, former Chief Administrative Judge of the State of New York to serve as a Supervising Judge of the Civil Court of the City of New York in Richmond County in 1997, and to serve as an Acting Justice of the Richmond County Supreme Court in 1999. He held those positions until 2001.

Justice Aliotta received his B.A from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1974. He went on to earn his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School in 1977.

He began his legal career as an associate at the Law Office of Jonathan D. Golby in 1978.

Then, in 1980, Aliotta left the private sector to join the Richmond County District Attorney’s Office, where he worked as an assistant district attorney. While there, he also served as an assistant district attorney with the Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor beginning in 1981.

Aliotta re-entered the private sector, entering into solo practice in 1985. He remained in that capacity until being elected to the Civil Court in 1991.

Some of his memberships have included the New York Bar Association, the Richmond County Bar Association, the Columbian Lawyers Association, and the Boy Scouts of America.
